ABOUT GIPSY KINGS

Catalan band from France, Gipsy Kings, emerged in 1979 as gipsy band performing in weddings, birthday parties, and on the streets. The group led by singer Nicolas Reyes were eventually hired to perform in events in Saint Tropez. They released their debut album, Allegria, in 1982 followed by Luna De Fuego in 1983. In 1987, the band dropped their self-titled album in the US and found immense success with its lead singles “Djobi Djoba,” “Bamboleo,” and “Un Amor.” With their relentless touring and rising fame, the band became one of the most beloved Catalan music groups in the world. By 1991, Gipsy Kings released Este Mundo, an album which received a Grammy nomination for Best Global Album. The band would receive three more nominations for the subsequent releases. In 2013, they finally received their first Grammy Award for the thirteenth album Savor Flamenco.
