Some Like it Hot at Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall

Set in Chicago during Prohibition when jazz music was all the rage, "Some Like It Hot" draws similarities to another award winning Broadway show, Chicago. Jazz elements fill the entire show as the main characters, Joe and Jerry, are struggling musicians working to survive on speakeasy performances. Their lives face a comical turn twist when they witness a gangster committing a crime in their mob-controlled venue and need to begin cross-dressing to protect their identities as new criminal targets. 

Joe takes on the persona of Josephine, while Jerry disguises himself as Daphne and the two join an women-only swing band. The band's singer Sugar Kane becomes a challenging part of their tale as the two men attempt to woo her without blowing their cover. The adventure each character faces many tests of their strengths and teaches them unexpected lessons about themselves. 

If the story sounds familiar, it's because "Some Like It Hot" is a Broadway reenactment of the 1959 film of the same name, which starred prolific actors Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe. The film itself was based on the 1953 French movie Fanfare of Love and has since become one of the most culturally relevant movies of any generation. The movie took home three Golden Globe Awards and one Academy Award and was chosen to be in the first class of 25 films chosen by the US National Film Registry for preservation.

The movies widespread success led it to become the inspriation for the 1972 Broadway show "Sugar", and multiple theatre productions in the 1990s, and eventually, the 2022 Broadway adaptation.
